Understanding Energy Security and Independence in Estonia
Research on Estonia’s Energy Landscape

Nidus Balticus has undertaken a significant research initiative to understand the public’s perspectives on energy security, independence, and sustainable energy in Estonia. This study involved extensive surveys and focus groups, capturing views from diverse demographics, to gauge attitudes towards energy policy, the role of renewables, and perceptions of security.

Key Findings

The findings reveal a divided yet evolving attitude towards energy independence, with most Estonians advocating for a mixed energy strategy that includes renewables, such as offshore wind, and possibly nuclear energy to ensure long-term stability. Concerns about dependency on foreign energy sources, were prominent, with many favoring collaboration with Baltic and Nordic neighbors to strengthen security. However, opinions varied significantly by community, with some expressing concerns over rising costs linked to green transitions.

Shaping Estonia’s Sustainable Future

This research serves as a cornerstone for Nidus Balticus’s ongoing work, supporting informed policy discussions and community engagement efforts. The findings underscore the importance of accessible, affordable, and resilient energy options to build a more independent Estonia. Nidus Balticus is committed to fostering these conversations, helping Estonians unite behind a vision for a secure, sustainable future.
