The Chair of the Board of Baltijos Lizdas, Agnė Rakštytė, together with Dr. Leon Hartwell, co-authored a report on energy security in the Baltic States, based on data from our research. The publication was released by the London School of Economics and Political Science.
The report “Energy Security in the Baltics: Perceptions in the Midst of the Russia–Ukraine War” examines many of the challenges we at Baltijos Lizdas address daily – from geopolitical risks and infrastructure gaps to public trust and regional resilience.
The research reveals that in all three Baltic States energy security remains a central priority, accompanied by a strong public desire to move towards sustainable and self-sufficient energy sources. While there is broad support for expanding renewable energy, citizens’ preferences for specific energy types differ. At the same time, the study highlights several challenges: widespread public skepticism towards government energy strategies, as well as uneven willingness to pay higher prices for environmentally friendly energy.
These findings demonstrate that achieving a successful energy transition requires not only investment in technology, but also transparent communication of strategies, targeted awareness campaigns, and economic instruments that make sustainable solutions more affordable and accessible.
